What is Carrot Seed Oil?

Native to Europe and now found growing wild across much of the United States, wild carrot (Daucus carota) has an impressive legacy; its healing properties have been hailed by the ancient Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, French, and Indians, who used it extensively to reduce inflammation and soothe digestion.

Carrot seed oil is extracted via steam distillation, usually from the leaves and stems of the wild carrot plant. Some constituents of carrot seed oil include beta-terpene, gamma-terpinene, camphene, limonene, myrcene, beta bisabolene, carotol, and geranyl acetate. When most people think of carotene, they think keener eyesight; however, carotene is also excellent for the skin.

Antioxidant Carotenoids:

Containing both vitamin A and the potent antioxidant compounds called carotenoids, carrot seed oil doesn’t simply protect your skin from signs of aging; it helps slow the aging process within the cells by preventing them from wearing out as quickly from oxidative stress. This benefits bodysystems, not just your skin. Aside from keeping your skin smooth and your hair from turning white, antioxidants also keep your joints from getting stiff and your muscles from getting weak, and slows the advance of age-related vision deterioration. It can also help your body destroy certain types of cancer cells. Found in red, yellow, and orange vegetables, carotenoids cannot be manufactured in the body and must be obtained from the diet—or your skincare regimen!
