Rich in vitamin K, pomegranate oil boasts abundant polyphenolic compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and anthocyanidins. These constituents offer potent cellular protection to the skin, including natural UV filtering to prevent sun damage. If your skin needs an antioxidant boost, look no further than luxurious pomegranate oil!

What is Pomegranate Oil?

Praised by name in the Bible and associated with health, pomegranates have been cultivate by humans for millennium. Often representing fertility and prosperity, the pomegranate has also been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to treat intestinal disorders, weakness of the heart and lungs, and to improve skin quality by slowing signs ofits aging. The seeds of a pomegranate are dried, and then cold-pressed, in order to obtain the precious oil.

Pomegranate oil is a light, absorbent specialty oil that blends well with other carrier oils. It contains vitamins A, C, and E, as well as punicic, linoleic, oleic, stearic, and palmitic acids. These fatty acids, along with the flavonoids, anthocyanins, and anthocyanidins, provide powerful protective benefits. In fact, pomegranate seed oil was found to have a higher antioxidant activity level than that of red wine!

What Does it Do?

Pomegranate oil is made up of multiple constituents and is very high in fatty acids—most notably, punicic acid. An Omega-5 fatty acid, also known as conjugated linoleic acid, this oil is typically found in animal sources. Pomegranate is the only known plant oil source for this potent antioxidant! This fatty acid has numerous benefits for the skin, including preventing oxidative stress, reducing inflammation, preventing cells from becoming cancerous, and slowing the effects of aging.

By strengthening the body’s use of collagen and working to counteract oxidative stress, punicic acid prevents cells from becoming weak and breaking down, keeping your skin strong, smooth, and young.

Protects Cells:

Pomegranate seed oil protects mature cells and keeps them from multiplying out of control, which is exactly what cancer is—unrestrained cell proliferation. With antioxidant activity comparable to or surpassing green tea, it’s no wonder that pomegranate oil has such a skin-protective effect. This ability to strengthen cells against damage is what provides its UV-filtering benefits, so that cell walls remain strong enough to resist damage that can lead to the development of cancer.

Thickens skin:

As age takes its toll, skin becomes thinner and weaker, which leads to lines, sagging, and wrinkles. Without firm tone and elasticity, your skin can start to hang in folds instead of being a strong barrier against the outside world. By increasing the number of keratinocytes in the skin, pomegranate seed oil helps your dermis layers remain strong and thick, and heal faster from environmental stressors.

Provides Polyphenols:

Anthocyanidins and anthocyanins are associated with red, blue and purple berries, grapes, pomegranates, and plums, and is responsible for part of the health benefits of red wine. Pomegranate seeds, with their deep red color, provide ample levels of these age-reversing antioxidants. These antioxidants are associated with heart health, but their cell-protective effects extend to other parts of the body, as well. When applied to the skin, they protect cells from stress, degeneration, and other signs of aging, resulting in clear, smooth, healthy skin.

Flavonoids are a broad category of plant-derived antioxidant compounds that are associated with many of the benefits of eating dark-colored vegetables. Contributing to the rich colors of green, red, blue, and purple fruits and vegetables, flavonoids are potent antioxidants that, like anthocyanins and anthocyanidins, protect cells from oxidative stress and damage that can lead to the development of cancer.

Rejuvenate

The Song of Songs, the epic Biblical love ballad, compares the complection of a beautiful woman to the firm, rosy skin of the pomegranate:

4:3 Like a scarlet strand, your lips,

    and your mouth—lovely!

Like pomegranate halves, your cheeks…”

This association is no accident. Ancient cultures knew about the skin-firming, age-reversing benefits of the pomegranate and used it to symbolize youth, vitality, and eternity. Your skin is your largest organ and covers your entire body. It protects you from the moment of birth against dirt, dust, and pathogens that would harm your body if they got past the barrier.

Healthy skin is happy skin—and part of a happy, healthy you. Isn’t it time you repaid that hard work and gave your skin the pampering it deserves? Taking care of your skin is a vital part of any self-care routine. True health starts both inside and out. We use pomegranate oil in our Face Essentials Daily Protect formula to keep your skin soft, smooth, and free of damage, wrinkles, or age spots.
